Residence Permit

  • Process for Marriage Verification

In most of the cities in NRW and other parts of Germany it is now required to verify the marriage solemenised in India through a process that takes about 6 months of time.

The process starts with an appointment for “Mitteilung von Personenstandsveränderungen im Melderegister”. In this appointment you bring Indian marriage certificate, birth certificates for yourself, spouse and children,, details about marriage,, pictures of marriage,, specially for Hindu rituals it is kind of nescessary to show the picture with fire and the fera around fire. You also need to submit the fee which is round 500 euros.

After that there is a long wait of around 6 months. If all documents are in order then in about 2 months our family in India will get a call from a lawyer for an interview for the verification of your marriage.

At the end of 6 months, +/- 2 months you will receive your documents back with a sticker at the back that the document is verified and their is a case number that can be referred anytime to in future.

This process is very important for the following reasons:

    1) Your tax class can be changed to 3,4,5 only when you complete this process otherwise you will be in a very high tax bracket.

    2) When you have a child in Aachen, you will receive a birth certificate only if you have completed this process.
